Root [International Tegra 3] Rooting UK Orange One X

Hello,

Never rooted before but sick of not getting updates from Orange and also a little tired on Sense since seeing my friends Nexus 5. What's the latest, most stripped down version of Android I can install? Done a bit of Googling but not found the instructions I'm after. Can anyone help?

Cheers.

For unlocking the bootloader, there's a step by step guide on the htcdev website. There's a few things to install and a bit of prep to do beforehand, but it's pretty easy.

The unlock process wipes the phone so you may want to take a look at helium so you can backup apps, data and texts etc. Are your contacts Google contacts or are they just on the phone? Log in to your GMail account via a PC and click contacts to check. Let me know if they're not there and I'll talk you through transferring them to gmail.

HTCdev is here btw: HTCdev - Unlock Bootloader

If you don't see the One X in the pull down, you can just select other model/phone

Is it Cyanogen you want to go for? I've probably written install instructions before so give me a couple of minutes to check and get a link for you. :)

A couple of things before you start, turn the phone off and turn it on again whilst holding Volume down. You're taken to a white screen with a load of options and some info at the top, it should say something along the lines of Endeavouru PVT S-ON, can you confirm?

Also, what's the hboot version (it should say somewhere on the page)?

Thanks, this looks more complicated than I thought! Will definitely have a go, but looks like more of a Saturday job!

Phone says:

Endeavouru PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT- 1.36.0000
CPLD-None
MICROP-None
RADIO-5.1204.163R.30
eMMC-bootmode:disabled
CPU-bootmode: disabled
HW Secure boot: enabled
MODEM PATH: OFF

My contacts are all stored on Google and more than happy to lose text messages. Will back up everything else if it isn't already on DropBox. More than happy to reinstall apps and have a clean slate.

Yeah, it's actually easier than it looks, but if it's your first time rooting etc, there's no harm in setting aside a bit of time and taking it slow. It should take no more than an hour if it goes to plan.

It's a relatively risk free procedure, but I'm working on Saturday, so I may not be on hand to help immediately if something goes wrong. If you post here if you're stuck I get email notifications to my phone so I'll pop on ASAP if needed.

Thanks for all this, going to have a go now then!

First thing I'm doing is downloading Helium and HTC Sync and backing everything up

Next I am going to download a bootloader, there is indeed no One X model listed. Can I just use any?

Use the "All Other Supported Models" option at the bottom.

Also, here are the download links for CM: CyanogenMod Downloads

CM11 is still in it's nightly phase at the moment, so it still might have a few bugs. If you're looking for something stable, try cm-10.2.0-endeavoru.zip. That being said, the nightlies are generally pretty stable and good for day to day use.

You'll also need the Google Apps package from here: Goo.im Downloads - Browsing gapps

For legal reasons, CM can't include the google apps with their ROM so it has to be flashed separately. It's easy enough to do, just flash it as soon as you've flashed the actual ROM.zip.

okay my first problem is that all my phone is doing when i plug the USB into my PC is charging. Not even HTC Sync Manager is recognising that the phone is there..

But Helium can't see it either, and can't see a way of getting files from PC to phone if it's not appearing in Windows as a device. Tried on Windows 7 and Windows 8 PC's, no luck.

You can transfer the zips with airdroid too, but it might be best to sort out the connection issues just in case something goes wrong.

When you plug the phone in, apart from charging, does it register it's been plugged in? Does anything appear in the notification pane?

Hello, got my phone connected last night (Windows 8? No. Windows 7? No. Windows XP? Yes!?). Going to transfer all my apps off and make a start tomorrow. Nearly had a go last night but was getting tired. Will shout you tomorrow when I inevitably get lost! Thanks for all your help.
