Root [International Tegra 3] S-ON whats this mean for rooting etc?

I unlocked my bootloader earlier(phew),successfully.
Now I want to root my phone(htc one x),but even after reading a bit on it,Im still really clueless on what needs done, but heres my question/query anyway:
i downloaded hasoons htc one x all in 1 toolkit, which is on my desktop.
when it says flash a recovery, is it just the 'TWRP' i click on,or 'Your own Recovery'?? the guide doesnt make it clear to me anyway.
once the recovery is done,is this in case anything goes wrong,& it can be rolled back to this 'recovery'?
also, when the boot screen on my phone is white etc, with blue & red writing etc, what is this known as?
sorry im a bit Bipolar so find it really difficult to express myself & my questions the way i would like to,so if anyone can sort of guess what info i need, guide etc,Id appreciate any help whatsoever
thanks guys/girls

My HTC ONE X phone is bootloader-unlocked,and shows S-On.
what does this mean for me as i am waiting for advice software to root my phone.(Anyone know an easy or easyish way/guide on how to do this?).
also,i think my CID is HTC_01 & main is 4.18.401.2
i dont even know what the 2 numbers above are for lol
also,i watched a video earlier about using the htc all in one toolkit by hasoon. Is this what you guys are using?
and whats gained by flashing another ROM onto my phone? and am i right in saying i cant update OTA after rooting?or is that just for flashing a new rom?

Rooting voids the warranty, so unless you have a specific reason to root, you shouldn't.

Kingo will probably do it.

and whats gained by flashing another ROM onto my phone?
Whatever that particular ROM gives you that the stock ROM doesn't. In some cases, nothing, and it leaves you with a phone with no GPS or no access to something else that the ROM builder hasn't figured out yet.

You have to unroot for most updates. Then you reroot.

or is that just for flashing a new rom?
You can't use an HTC update for a different ROM. If the ROM maker does updates, you can still update that ROM (but not OTA from your carrier).

Oh, flashing a ROM also voids the warranty.

xda-developers - View Single Post - Noob Question About S-On, S-Off, and HTC's unlock

That post does a pretty good job of explaining what S-OFF or S-ON is.

Unless you've been lucky enough to get a One X that has shipped with S-OFF, it's highly unlikely you'll get it as an S-OFF exploit for the One X has never been found :(

I also wouldn't worry about OTA's and root either, because from your software number, you're on the latest build and it looks as though that's what the One X will stay on.

From what you've told me via PM, if you're looking for performance/battery gains and an increase in volume, root alone won't get you that, you'll need to go for a custom ROM. The 2 best for the One X are either Venom or ARHD. Both are stable as hell, offer great battery life and have an awesome dev team behind them. Unfortunately, Venom is still available, but is discontinued. It's still worth a go though as it's pretty customisable and nothing in it is broken.

ARHD isn't as customisable, but the dev still supports it.
