Root [International Tegra 3] Viper ROM

El Presidente

Beware The Milky Pirate!
Never used one of his ROM's myself but I have heard good things about him as a developer though.

I use his Extended Quick Settings in my HOX and it's awesome!

Saying that, looking at some of the features he has I might give his ROM a try!

Have you tried it yet?

I'm downloading now to see what it's like, I like ARHD but I like to mod my phone quite a bit.

Not yet, I've just got my unlock code from HTC and flashing Viper was my plan for this evening (Cos that's what all the cool guys do on a Saturday night).

Ha ha too true!

Flashed it about an hour ago, I like all the options you get but I couldn't find a way to get rid of the red theme, could change the icons back but the red theme for everything else stayed which didn't appeal to me.

Can't give a proper review because I only used it for about 30 minutes but it was stable and as smooth as Sense can be for those 30 minutes :D

Back on my nandroid of ARHD now though.

The themes are linked a couple of posts down, but there's nothing that floats my boat at the moment. I may give this a miss for tonight and go for Renovate instead.

I'd agree, the red isn't great. If I need to mess around to get it looking exactly how I want it, I'll do it when I've got a bit of time.

Hi All tried Viper but just kept getting boot loop once it got to the lock screen with snake. Did all sorts wipe clean delvik etc . Lovely and clean but still boot loop it worked for a while the stopped and never worked again. Oh well it seemed a very good rom for the few minutes it worked LOL . Sorry i can not give a more detailed report REGARDS PAUL

Did you flash the boot.img?

Hi Gibbs1984 yes did all of that thanks though as I have forgotten before . Any how with seeing this thread it has
Soured me on to try again . First time same result so with having a bit of time re downloaded again . We now have lift off . So I will report back with general info in a day or two .
Also a lesson learnt as to check simple things first instead of thinking
To deep into it . My fault LOL

This was my main driver before moving to cm10 from TripNRaver. IMO, it's the best sense rom, was using one of francos kernals with it and it ran really smoothly. To get rid of red theme, re flash and untick red theme :/

Reflashing without red theme didn't remove it entirely for me. I've been using insertcoin 7.3.0 for ages with zero issues. I'd switch to CM10 PR10 tomorrow, if there was a decent camera application available that worked /properly/ with the imagesense chip (yes, I know until HTC open source the drivers that's not going to happen) and the bluetooth worked consistently.

Pretty much the reason why I'm not going to go full AOSP, I couldn't live without the camera app.

I've been having a play with Jellybean for the last few days [ROM][Jul 29]Jellybean 4.1.1 for Endeavoru AOSP Build - xda-developers

And while all nice and dandy, it all works pretty well, although as mentioned, the camera is a bit basic, so decided also to give the Viper Rom a shot, and have to say that after a couple of hours am very impressed with it, especially like the OTA updates they have available for it as and when they update it.
I purposely downloaded the first version so i could check out the update feature and it worked flawlessly.

I was a LeeDrOiD stalwart since my Desire days, but with that faltering a bit at the minute due to various problems he is having, i have now found my daily driver.:D

How you finding renovate rom? I tried it in the early days and battery was hopeless with the franko kernel. I just flashed version 3.0 yesterday with the new faux kernel and it seems alot better. I didn't really like the status bar icons, so have flashed a theme over the top. Undervolting it too with system tuner pro, so far so good.:)

Liking it, I like the Sense/AOSP mash up. Like you though, I'm not a fan of the status bar icons. TBH though, I'm not a massive fan of many of the alternatives either so I may just stick with them for now. What did you go for?

Battery life seems pretty good, at the very least about 20% better than what I was getting with stock and it's running A LOT cooler. Running with a -100mV undervolt at the moment and it seems stable enough so I'll probably try -125 tonight (that was the highest I managed with my previous handset).

Some stuff doesn't work, the Renovate tools (I knew that before flashing anyway), and I can't see my usage under the Wireless & Networks menu, but I have 3G watchdog for that anyway. Also semi annoying that to get icons on the lock screen, you need widgetlocker (unless I'm missing something). It has this annoying bug on the One X.

Overall though, very impressed. There are no more minor annoyances than there were on the stock ROM.

settings-personalise-untick lock screen shortcuts? is that what you mean.

I am using senseCream v3.1 Renovate theme i found over at xda. Like you i don't like those icons much , but they're an improvement.

Yeah, that's active but still no icons. I presumed it was because on stock ROMs, those icons are the icons that appear in the Sense dock. As Sense is removed on Renovate, it doesn't know what to put there. As it doesn't seem to use the Apex dock.

I installed Viper this afternoon. "Desensed" in Aroma and using Apex as the default Launcher. Also installed an AOSP theme. Using Faux's latest mainline kernel too.

Not had much time to mess about, but I'm certainly impressed with what I've seen so far. :)
