intro and help request

Hi.
Have a sprint evo 4g that i love but is also inoperable for some strange reason and due to crazy ass circumstances that seem to have no end, my funds stay depleted. i havent been able to turn it on or communicate with anyone for months.

i also have

a mytouch 3g with tmobile that was given to me. this thing is very very slow.
i was wondering if there is a way to root this thing with ease and speed it up or at least allow access to ANYTHING, since it freezes up more times than not.
