Hello! Let me first start off by saying I'm not really one to sign up for any forums, let alone post an introduction and wanting to be an active member of this community! However I kind of feel this community is different, I sense a different feel about this forum and after reading many useful posts, I almost feel like I belong here.
My name is Chris, I actually stumbled upon this site when I wanted to root my Samsung Galaxy Prevail. My research led me here to this site and after many hours of reading and searching I attempted successfully to root my phone. I had some previous knowledge of how to root after I rooted an old phone of mine. I thought of it as a tester phone. The HTC Hero. I didn't mind if I bricked it. Rooting both phone's went extremely well because not only did I grab the tools from this site, I grabbed the knowledge as well.
I just wanted to thank Scary Alien for the post in All Things Root. It's a great source of information. Without that post I definitely wouldn't of known where to start. I tried rooting my prevail for a long time. I been in and out of various web sites just quickly browsing never really taking time to read the information but after I found myself hitting this site more and more I figured this has got to be the real deal and I started reading; and I'm so glad I did!
So after comprehending all of the forums posts and trying to root my prevail I came up with the following conclusions, and I really hope these will help someone as I was getting so frustrated and I kept referring to threads trying to figure out my problems:
I found that if you updated to Gingerbread 2.3.6, you must Odin back to an earlier version. I went back to 2.3.5 then followed Shabby's One Click Root which worked flawlessly. Before I Odin'd, I kept trying to root, struggling because some people said you had to launch the .bat at just the right time and so forth. After hours of trying that method I failed miserably. I had to find an easier way. After I flashed with Odin, one click root was really all i needed. Just one click and away i went. Great stuff! So thanks Shabby! On another note, I was reading in a couple different places that people with Windows 7 64bit were having problems rooting. I didn't have any problems, and that's the system I am running. Just had to flash back to an older version and run the root program. Simple as that. With that I hope I helped someone avoid the frustration that I went through
Everything I tried worked exactly as described. I didn't have any problems wiping my system as I had backed everything up. I even tried flashing a few different roms to see which one I like the best. And I guess that's where I am at right now. They all are really great in their individual ways, I'm having such a tough time choosing the right one for me!
I just want to thank everyone that contributed everything to that thread, there's way to many people to list, but I learned a lot from this forum, a little bit from everyone individually. I hope that I will be able to contribute at least a little bit. I feel that knowledge is power and should be shared so that everyone can benifit from it.
Enough ranting from me! That's enough for an introduction I guess lol! I hope to get to know everyone from this forum and I look forward to contributing wherever and whenever I can!
