iphone 3g not being heard

on my iphone 3g when i make or recieve a call people can hear me but i can't hear them, the microphone symbol on the screen appears as "mute", does anybody knows how to fix this issue, it's not the on/off mute switch

Let me add my welcome to you, mcanda.

I think you may find a bit of discussion around the forums on various Apple products, including the iPhone 3G, but probably a lot less than there is on the various Android devices.

Meanwhile, is there a setting in the menus somewhere which causes sound to be muted on incoming calls? It sounds to me like the volume rocker/buttons may have been turned all the way down during a call, causing incoming voice to not be heard.. try making a call and then pressing the volume up button a few times.
