hello guys,i am a 16 yr old who's unable to choose between the 2 phones mentioned above.whichever i buy would have to serve me good for at least 5 years.please help me out.

Go with the Galaxy

If it's a "new" plan, get the best phone, like a Galaxy, from the carrier...if it's a mid-plan upgrade (existing plan), consider getting a used 3gs from Craig's List....

Galaxy S is better than the iPhone 4. This is a no brainier.

However if your buying off contract, a used 3GS in much cheaper.

I'm not sure why you're asking an Android forum (or why you'd ask an Apple forum) about which of these phones to buy.

I doubt either will last 5 years as far as software and usability goes.
In 5 years no matter what you have it's going to be really archaic.
Best bang for the buck right now is going to be the Galaxy S - your guaranteed at least another software update with it.
The iPhone 3.. probably not.

The Galaxy S is comparable to an iPhone 4. That being said, Galaxy S is the best choice when compared to iPhone 3GS. You'll get more longevity out of an Android phone with the frequent updates, that you will not get from Apple.

Sorry, neither phone will be good for 5 years. Technology is generally outdated every 18 months with cell phones being a bit shorter. That said, the Galaxy is at the beginning of it's life cycle while the 3GS is approaching its end.

That's a very good reason to go for the Galaxy S

If you NEED it to last 5 years, get the new Galaxy S instead of the year-old and already outdated iPhone 3Gs. Both will be old and obsolete long before you hit the 5 year mark, but the 3Gs is already closer to that.

I don't want to sound like a prick but if there is one thing that I can tell you about life is that you will get farther learning and researching than you will asking and waiting. This is an android forum and although you will get answers, some will be more biased towards android.

My best advice that I can give to you is that you use the search feature here and read a couple of threads to see what problems people are having with any phone that your interested in, be it the Galaxy S or Desire or whatever. Learn why some people gave up an iphone for an android. Than go to the iphone forums and ignore all those little fanboys and weed through the bull poop to find what people like and don't like about the iphone.

Biased opinions can get you into trouble when buying anything cause you could end up with something that is right for someone else but not right for you

Go forth young grasshopper and use the tools I have given you

The iphone 3GS is already outdated. Any new software updates will be utilizing the fast speed of the iphone 4 and bog down your phone. I'm not as biased either because I used to have a first gen iphone. By the end of my 2 year contract I was dying to get rid of it. I couldn't stand how slow it was anymore. You won't even make it 2 years with the 3GS while you could at least make 2-3 with the galaxy S. By then you need to get a job and upgrade your phone. These phones are only around $100-200 with contract renewal.
