Iris scan for Samsung pay but not for lock screen

I like to use iris scan to unlock Samsung Pay, but I do not want to have lock screen. Can I do that? It seems redundant to have both. I enjoy that freedom of no lock screen but I like having Samsung Pay secured.

Once you have registered your iris you should be able to simply turn off the lock screen feature for iris unlock and still use banking apps etc that feature that mode of security as you are only turning off the lock screen settings and not the actual security feature of the phone.

You say "you should be able"... Does this mean it will work or is this how you think it will work? It doesn't work that way on my Galaxy S8+. If I set up biometrics for the app, Samsung Pay in this case, and then go to settings to remove the lock screen setting, all the biometrics are removed for the device, including Samsung Pay.

Well I don't use Samsung pay or face unlock. But I did test it with finger print biometrics and it worked for me.

I'll look into further later when I have more time..

Ok I've just had a play having never used iris unlock. When I finished setting up the iris scanner I skipped the guide and was then asked if I wish to use iris unlock for my phone, I choose "not now" and was then presented with a page to setup iris unlock for Samsung Pay etc.

So the answer is that you can indeed just use it for Samsung Pay. You made need to wipe your iris data and start again to get those options.

I've tried several different ways, but I can't seem to get the same results. I have wiped iris data and tried to set up again through Samsung Pay. It rolls out to settings to set up iris data. I go to Samsung Pay it works great. I go back to settings and I get the dialogue below.

See the system message when I change settings to a non-secure screen. It says I cannot use biometrics to verify identity in apps.

Sounds like you need to have some form of biometric lock screen. So setup finger print unlock, you don't actually have to use it.

Once you have your iris data setup you should simply be able to turn lock screen on/off within the iris data screen.
