is a Backup App really necessary if all of my Contacts and Calendar data is stored in Gmail and all of my paid apps are stored in Market?

why do i need a Backup App?

THANKS!

To back up your SMS, bookmarks, and the like basically.

And if you flash custom ROMs a lot, it's helpful for batch reinstalls.

Question 1: Yes and no, a backup app is nice, but not necessary.

Quesion 2: The reason you would needa backup app is that the Market does not save any kind of saved app data from your phone. The only way to save that kind of information would be to back it up either on your sd card or on your PC. If your phone is ever wiped, lost, misplaced, taken by children to their underground lair, you would still have your saved data, if it is backed up to your PC.

Ive flashed different ROMs about 10 times now. There is no way i could have reinstalled all my user data manually in the time titanium backup did it.
So in that case yes its great, but for the rest, i wouldnt really worry about it.
I have an 8gig card in my phone and a 4 gig card that i mirror to just for safety.

Backups are good if you purchased some of your apps from third parties. Titanium Backup saves that information as well as private apps like your mobile banking app that mybackup pro won't see so you don't have to manually hunt it down and add it again if you re-flash your phone. You just tell it to reinstall your data for those apps and there you go. Back in business.
