is Android OS capable of headset auto level adjust

I have only had my Hero for a couple of weeks and am generally happy with it, but this issue is really, really bothering me.

I dont know if it is an android OS issue (there are no settings I can find to overcome this problem, and My old HTC Touch HD also made by HTC did not have this problem)

When listening to music via the headphones, the phone MUST automatically reduce the volume of the incoming call

and notification ring sounds. It is dangerous for healthy hearing! Seriously, my phone is almost always set to full volume throughout the day, but when I plug my headphones in, and am listening to music, when the phone rings the ringing is UNBELIEVABLY loud and has frightened me out of my wits a number of times.

My Touch HD used to automatically reduce the ringing and notification sounds when headphones were plugged in.

Perhaps Android OS is not capable of this? I am curious to know, and would buy an app which could overcome this problem.

Try the aHeadset app from the market. It makes it like you have separate volume settings for when headphones are or aren't plugged in.

thanks, for that, but i bought that app and it only works in some ways...

basically it will remember your two ring levels, plugged in or not, but does not remember the in-call volume... so you still get your ears blasted!

I think I will ask the developer if he/she is going to fix that, or give me the (tiny amount of money) back.

odd that android has gaps like this... and that I hear so little complaint about it. I use my headphones daily while commuting, so its a very rude shock when someone calls.

On my Droid, aHeadset does remember the 2 different (plugged and unplugged) in-call volume settings.

Now an entirely different issue is that with my gym headphones, the bare minimum in-call volume setting is too loud
