is Android Wear/Gear live Play Store only?

Just browsed some of my favorite techno geek hangouts to see if the Gear Live or Wear is available. Sad thing is, nothing about them. The clerks never heard of them and directed me to the Gear 2 and Gear Fit. Is this new line of smartwatches online only? I want to try them out in store instead of looking at pictures online before buying.

Not sure. The blueshirts never heard of them. I just don't like buying something online until I can see it first and try it out. Examine build quality and such given my gritty job. Pictures online can deceive

I've been trying to figure out the same thing. The G Watch is available to buy pretty much everywhere in the UK but the Gear Live is about as easy to find as the Loch Ness Monster!

I'm exactly the same, I won't buy something like this without seeing first.
Samsung are going to lose out a lot here as I'm about 70% sure the moment I'll the G Watch.

I have the original Gear but I like the voice command features and nicer UI in the Live. Also like the screen being on all the time.

Problem is, I have no idea from pictures online if the screen is even backlit, AMOLED, or how it affects battery life. Also not sure if it is built the same as the first Gear or made more like a Pebble which didn't hold up well at work. Does it even have gorilla glass? That has helped keep my gear alive most. Last thing I want is to get a huge gash on the screen on the first day after shelling $299 for it.

Just like to clarify, NONE of the Wear line-up seems to be in store yet. No G watch, 360, Wear or Live. Currently original Gear, Gear 2, and Gear Fit only.

I've looked on the best buy website and it looks like both the G watch and the gear live are available to order but store pickup is "not available" which would imply that they haven't made it into the stores yet. In addition, the moto 360 hasn't been given a price point or a release date so we are still waiting on that.

No dice here either. Tried just about every store in town. Only Gear 2, Neo and Fit. That's it aside the assortment of Pebbles.

So it's either online only or they have not yet launched and those using them have dev copies.

My Gear is rooted and running a ROM, any word on whether or not the Wear OS has been made into a ROM yet? I would sideload it until I can get the real deal.

I have to chime in and say I'm not getting a smartwatch or any watch for that matter without trying it on. My $0.02.:)
