Is facebook the new instant messaging and email?

I have been wondering something. Is facebook the new instant messaging? I recently left the blackberry and made the jump to Android. I wanted to keep in touch with some of my friends from the berry so I figured we could talk through fb. I realized that I have added friends to gtalk and also gmail and no one gets back to me. But they update their status frequently and act like they don't read their texts and emails. What is the point of updating your status every hour with fluff but never responding to texts or emails? I recently deleted my fb account due to this nonsense.

I could always get more use out of my instant messaging services. If you would like to chat, send me a private message and we can take it from there. I am 34 years old and will chat with interesting people.

Might just be your circle of friends. Texts and emails are alive and well with my circle ... as well as facebook.

It could be my former friends as they are now. Then once they see that I am not on facebook anymore, they will say how come you didn't email or text me. And I can say I did - but you are always on facebook. Facebook is not the be all end all

Yeah it might just be the people you interact with. I can't sign on gtalk without the damn thing lighting up. So, I usually turn it off a lot lol

But, yes, Facebook is kind of the "new" way to interact. Grab yourself the eBuddy app!

Facebook has really made staying in touch more convenient as your contacts are more centralized. Whether its the new IM/Email all in one is yet to be determined.

I don't have that issue. I hold convos on FB chat daily. It won't replace email but it's definitely stealing AIM's thunder. I rarely log onto AIM these days.

I do a lot of texting to keep in touch.... aim/msn/gtalk is relegated to "internet friends"

i agree with SoFLO. I highly doubt FB will override email but it has become a new standard for AIM/iMs. Im only 20, but my younger sister doesnt even use AIM, and that makes me feel old :( It's all about the FB chat now because it's easy.

Just need FB for android to have chat and ill be happy

It is indeed. Hell lots of times my chat window will go blank if I minimize it so I usually keep it open now and resume my Facebook activities in another tab. Everyone uses it though since it's convenient so if you can't beat them join them.
