Is it crazy to think that the phone that does doesn't...

works on my Nexus...granted I am running the pre release of Froyo, so it MAY be a new feature, but I don't think so...I think it did the same on 2.1.

My Dinc can't find company names if they are in the "Organization" field, only if they are in the Name field.
 
I input all businesses using just the organization field. There is nothing in the name field.

My Milestone 2.1 finds them with no problem.

Maybe it's one of those charming Sense quirks, like cutting off the street addresses so you have to pull up a map to see them. :(
 
search company name in organization works fine on my nexus 2.1, although the field does not display unless in edit mode
 
I think the problem is that people go into contacts to search. Just hit the search button on the phone and type in the biz name and it will find it in the people app for you. Just did this on my Inc. and it found all my coworkers just fine.

Just tried that. Didnt work.

I can search from the home screen or inside contacts.

If I search from within contacts its a lot faster. If I search from the desktop I have to narrow my search results to contacts to get the full list of employees.

I am syncing my contacts from exchange, but it shouldn't make a difference since everything ends up in contacts.

The company directory is still not working in Android 2.2 at least on my EVO 4G. But the good news is that you dont need it to work. There is a better way. I kept thinking that Google was supposed to be the king of searching, so I could not accept the fact that you cannot atleast search by company name. After doing some digging I found out a way to find contacts by company name.

Press the "+" sign next to "Phone" on your home screen then select "Widgets" next select "Google Search" then select "People" and place the search bar on your home screen. Now you can search your contacts by name, company, number, etc. You can select the contact and see the full contact info for that individual and dial the number from there. You can also have the search pull up related email, texts, etc. when you search for the individuals name.
