Is it possible to root the HP Slate 7 Extreme?

Hey everyone.

It doesn't look like it will get an update to Lollipop which is a shame, as it's a really powerful device.
So I want to install a custom rom to do just that. Naturally I need to root first.

I have looked online and every guide for rooting this tablet (which are few and far between) haven't worked and are outdated.

Does anyone have an up to date guide on rooting this tablet that works with Android 4.4.2?

PS: I'm no stranger to rooting, so it doesn't matter how technical the root process is.

Tried Kingroot and Towel root, with no joy. Haven't heard of Root genius, will look that up.
