Is it possible to sort photos from your photo picker, or is there an app you can install?

You should be able to sort by date.
Well how exactly do you want to sort them?

Which photo manager app are you using? The stock Gallery app? The Google Photos app? They all should have some basic sort and display option so you can adjust how your photos are shown -- i.e. oldest or newest first, large or small thumbnails, etc. The thing is each app will have a different user interface so you might need to peruse through the app's Settings/Config/Options menu or there might be an icon in a upper or lower menu bar.

Yes, it is possible to sort photos from the photo picker on most devices.
