Help Is it safe to factory reset a rooted Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0?

Silvrsun

Lurker
I rooted it with SuperOneClick. Will it brick or anything? I use busybox, adaway, overclock widget, and maybe a couple other root-only apps that I'm not remembering. Is a factory reset safe? Can I root it again after I factory reset without issues? The reason I want to factory reset is because in-app purchases suddenly stopped working. It used to work but now, no matter what app I'm in, if I select something that directs me towards Google Play for purchase, I either get an error message like "Your device does not support in-app purchases" or nothing happens. Will factory reset fix this? I assumed it might since it used to work. Should I un-root or anything like that before factory reset? Should I format my external SD too?

Waiving responsibility for your player aside, I've done a factory reset via CWM Recovery without issue (rooted, diff kernel/2.3.6-based ROM).

***If you're worried, you should make a back up before you do anything. Like boot-looped it after messing up the framework , re-flashed a related ROM, and reverted to my previous settings via a backup. Point being- even if you horribly mess up your system, you'll able to recover via the backup.

Wiping data/Dalvik cache (or factory resetting) only seems to wipe everything in a few specific root folders, leaving your "SDCard" folder intact. (at least mine.)

Rooting should be fine (/factory reset left root accessibility alone)...well, it is for me, but it could either be because I'm on a different ROM (rooted by default) or because it doesn't affect the root privileges. I'm not sure about this point, so you should Google it more. Again, backups are you friend.

I'd like to help the in-app purchases thing, but I've never used it. Actually, I only have a very vague idea about what it is (I assume that it's exactly what it sounds like)

Thanks. How exactly do I make a backup? The backup would still work if my galaxy player was bricked? I think I'm going to wait and see if anyone who has factory reset their rooted SGP 5.0 replies. And in-app purchases are like when you're in Restaurant Story and you choose to buy gems and it takes you to Google Play to buy it.

In-app purchases are working all of a sudden so I'm not going to factory reset. Weird lol. Thanks for the help anyways :)
