Is my phone new or refurbished?

I recently bought a 'new' Android phone (Pixel 6a). I needed to check the phone's details for a different issue so clicked Settings/About and noticed that the phone number showing was not my number (my wife's does match her's). Does this mean I have been sold a refurbished phone rather than a new one, as described by the Amazon seller?

It came out May of last year, so yes, someone probably owned it before you.
Have you signed in with your Gmail account on the device?
Has it been factory reset since you bought it?

Yes, I have signed into my gmail account and I've been using the phone for about a month. I have a problem pairing it with my Garmin Swim2 sports watch, which is why I was checking the details. I haven't experienced any other problems so far but it seems I've been mis-sold, the phone was described as new.

I haven't done a factory reset but it seemed clean apart from this when I got it.

I've sent the seller a message, it was sold through Amazon Market.

Does it use a sim card (physical) or an esim (digital)?

It uses a SIM.

It does have esim capability so it's possible that's where the number is coming from. See what the seller says but if that's the case it can probably just be deleted. It would also mean the phone isn't new...

Was it sealed? Did you get a new sim card and transferred / ported your number.
Very often in some settings it will show the original default phone number before you ported your own number to it.
