Hi I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 and it appears to have a SIM card and when it is pulled out I get and "unregistered SIM" error message. The phone has an option in the "Settings/Mobie Network/Network mode" to choose "WCDMA", "GSM only" or "Both", if I want.

Is this a GSM SIM? Can I unlock the phone, and put in a GSM SIM from T-Mobile or AT&T for use while I visit the USA?

It depends on your model of Galaxy S2. Some carriers have a gsm version and others have a cdma version. From your description though it appears you have one of the gsm ones. If this does not answer your question feel free to post another question with more information or register on the forum and post in your devices sub-forum.

Well, it seems to be a hybrid - a CDMA phone but can fall back to GSM when not in my cell service provider area, (Telus Canada which Bell has leased the use of the Telus network).

Oooops, just checked and Holy Crap, Telus and Bell switched from CDMA to GSM three years ago. That's what happens when you only be a phone every 5 years!!! LOL. So it is mostly a GSM phone with CDMA capability!! Should be good to go!

Thanks so much for helping and stateing the obvious, which just seemed illogical to believe because I thought we were still operating CDMA networks here.

"WCDMA" is the 3G on a "GSM" network. That's why I said it was a GSM phone.

Yes, it's a confusing acronym soup we have in the mobile world!
