Is tethering allowed with solavei?

I have a nexus 7 tablet and I would really like to use it while out and about. I've recently switched to a gsm phone and I'm noticing most of the pre paid gsm mvno carriers are not allowing tethering. I don't understand this, as my old cdma carriers like boost, virgin, and cricket all had tethering add ons. Why is it such a big deal to these gsm carriers? If you have 2gb of full speed data, and a smartphone capable of tethering, what's it to them if you use that 2gb all on your phone, or some on a tablet or laptop?

Hmm. This is def interesting. I am seriously considering solavei. I sure wish they still had that free month deal going on. But if I could even get a free sim I might try it for a month.

There are reports of people tethering successfully. I just read all the fine print and tethering is technically not supported.

Yeah I figured as much. T-Mobiles own prepaid plan is the only gsm mvno I've seen that even has an add on for tethering. $15 bucks a month. But their plans are the most expensive. Have to pay $60 just for 2gb of 4G. That'd make it $75. Their new unlimited 4G plan doesn't include tethering at all. I dont know why simple mobile or straight talk or solavei don't offer it as an add on.

As you concluded, they dont really need to care how you use your data allotment. So the question is why is tethering not supported by them? Simple. Cost. They do not want Joe Sixpack calling them up and asking them how to tether their new tablet to their phone. Instead of them trying to trouble shoot all the different brands of phones that will come under their wing or trying to figure out why you cannot tether the simply say "not supported".

How you use your data allotment is up to you. Just dont expect them to help you figure out how to tether your [insert device here] to your [insert phone here].

I was wondering about this myself. I was thinking it's likely they don't want you using one service plan across multiple devices when they could (in theory) sell that to you. That's a wild guess on my part.

Very good point....

That's a nice thought. However, the companies that do have tethering as an add on try their best to STOP you from tethering if you haven't paid for it. (Of course) Then there's companies that "don't support" it, but the wording in their TOS seems to suggest it's not "allowed". I think it's rather an assumption to suggest they don't particularly care whether you do or not, they just don't want to be bothered helping you with it. But hey, I'll give it a shot. I guess the worst they can do is tell me to stop. I'll have to wait until next month though because, due to not having a Sim card yet, i had to go through T-Mobile this month with the included Sim that came with my phone.
