Is there a thin little line between madness and genius?

Sometimes I wonder if I unfortunately fall under this category.

It seems there is a gene called neuregulin 1 which seems to be associated with madness and genius.

Some people say that I am "obsessive" and drive people insane over the details being neurotic.

I sometimes wonder if I am a bit crazy... I got incredible marks for certain subjects at school... I have a burning desire for mathematics.

I got 96% for higher grade maths and got multiple distinctions at University... (I really love maths!) I really love mathematics in particular but people usually say I have "psychotic" tendencies and sometimes I creep them out ... and sometimes my creepy comments make people uneasy sometimes with what I say but people can be stupid.

Do you sometimes just comprehend (with no calculations or prior knowledge being taught or presented / given) certain things from a psychical sense mechanically - for example many years ago my father and my brother were installing a certain metal support for the garage for quite a heavy object some number of years ago and my mind just could somehow feel or know the metal twisting in my mind and giving in without doing any calculations just knowing that the metal would give in to the forces involved.

And this is just one example.

Yes I have a strong natural mechanical aptitude so it is no surprise I eventually became an engineer :)

I really loved the mathematics side in particular though - I wish everything was perfect like maths but sadly it isn't.

It was kind of crazy I told them not to do it as that particular metal and amount would not suffice and buckle - they just ignored me and carried on and trues nuts - wham! It gave in and everything fell to the floor and smashed into pieces and they were just amazed and taken aback or shocked.

Sometimes I get hypnotized by the details - I love them :)

I also went crazy at one point and was semi institutionalized at one point in my life spending my 18th birthday in a semi asylum going kind of mad.

Do you sometimes feel like you are crazy as well and not really stable at times and sometimes have certain gifts that are hard to kind of explain?

This is also why I came up with an invention for artificial banking in motor cars but Mclaren sadly got the idea first before me - sometimes these are just gifts and I just can't explain it that easily - sometimes I literally just see or feel certain things and can feel it all in my mind and can't really explain it sometimes.

Do you sometimes feel like you are kind of crazy in a way but it came at a bit of a cost?

I love the joker! :D

I guess also sometimes you get just plain crazy with zero / 0 smarts but then sometimes certain things fall into certain categories or different areas... something far more unique and extraordinary or unique!

I don't think I am special by any means but yes I do have certain gifts to just see certain things sometimes but I wonder how there are those unique situations or people that really break the mould entirely and take it to another level!

So do you feel like you are gifted but simultaneously cursed / haunted at the same time?

I thought this might be cool to share and make for interesting conversation :)

My sister in law is a mathematical genius. In 9th Grade she introduction to algebra. At the end of week one they had this home work assignment with twenty math problems, assignment due Monday. Monday came she turns in her work got an A. Week two ends twenty more math problems. As the students are going out the door she drops week 2's home work assignment on the teachers desk.
He asked what it was?
She told him it was the answers for this weeks home work.
She then pulled out this binder and told the teacher here you go, this is the rest of the end of the chapter math problems. She even high lighted stuff in her work from the text book explained what the answer was supposed to be according to the text and then explained why it was wrong and the problem should be written out.
On Monday she came to her math class and the teacher told her to go to the office they were sticking her in a new class
Calculus 2.
She pretty much ace it in a few months she got bored and slacked so she could have finished sooner
