Is there a list of phones that work with T-Mobile (US)?

Not that I can think of... however.... lets see if google has the answer!
....and I couldn't find anything useful. Here's what I suggest doing: find a phone that's on Tmobile, and look at the band frequency(ies). Then, the phone you're looking at, make sure it matches the bands. That's about the best way I can say to approach it... a bit tedious. Sorry, however, here are the bands straight off tmobile's page for the MyTouch 3g.
Band (frequency): 850 MHz;900 MHz;1800 MHz;1900 MHz;2100

I agree that a Google search turned out to be less than useful, thus my reason for asking here.
I had also considered that perhaps any unlocked GSM phone should work with T-Mobile in the US however I read on several forums that the Motorola XT701 for example would in fact not work with T-Mobile here (just ATT) and thus my concern as it is in fact a GSM phone which operates on all of the same frequencies that the certified T-Mobile Phones do.
Thus my hope that someone might know of a comprehensive compatibility list as I would hate to spend several hundred dollars on a phone just to discover that it can't talk to my T-Mobile account.

The list is a one by one search of phones you are interested in. Like in post number two, you need to look at the frequency. Specifically you are looking for 850 and 1900 MHz. As long as both of those frequencies are there, the phone will work.
Keep in mind, that in terms of data, those numbers will only get you to Edge. 3G is a different beast with different numbers.

T-mobile US runs on 1900mhz for regular voice and EDGE data. If you want 3G data you'll nees a phone that runs on the UMTS (WCDMA) band IV 1700/2100mhz frequencies. Do not confuse GSM frequencies with UMTS (WCDMA) Frequencies. Although the frequencies may be the same, the transmission technology is different.These days most phones are quandband GSM so they cover nearly all the frequencies around the world for voice and EDGE data. The thing you want to really pay attention to are the 3G frequencies. They can vary greatly by country and by carrier.
