Is there a quick way to turn off the ringer?

I've found that I can shut off the ringer by turning the volume all the way down. And of course, you can do it by pulling down the settings. But is there an even quicker/easier way to do it? (I know, I'm lazy).

Thanks.

Thanks. I was hoping for a gesture or something on the lock screen so I don't have to unlock the phone first just to turn off the ringer. But now that you mention it, I never actually tried pulling down the settings while the phone was locked. Just tried it and it does work. So I guess I can just do that and then hit the Sound or Do Not Disturb button.

There are plenty of apps/widget buttons which will mute the phone, which you can put on any homepage or the dock.

well, the ultimate Quick Way, is a macro that responds to some action.

for me, I wanted to silence the phone and put it to sleep, so I use "Shake it" as a trigger and it instantly "goes to sleep".
also turns off DATA and WiFi....

that maximizes the battery life while I am snoozing :)

Without downloading an app that requires a macro is there any quicker way to get to mute than:

1. hit home or power button to go from always on display to lock screen (volume buttons do nothing at this screen)
2. swipe down to reveal sound button (it takes a second swipe down to reveal the do not disturb button)
3. press sound button to go to vibrate
4. press sound button again to go to mute
5. (optional) press the lock button again to lock the phone

I wouldn't want the likely awkward attention drawn to me by shaking my phone every time I walked into a meeting if I used the app mentioned above.

I've recently switched from an iPhone 5S which took one step to mute by moving the physical silent button. I like the Galaxy S7 but muting it is annoying.

How can that be awkward???? It only takes a small fraction of a shake.
You can just bump it while laying the phone on a table and it locks.

I think you are paranoid about it. Not one person has ever even noticed what I am doing. I carry it in my front pocket, and just slap my hand against the phone and I feel it vibrate indicating the screen has locked.

For you, it would vibrate and set the phone to MUTE. or Airplane Mode if you chose to.

I don't know how big of a shake you are trying to envision, but it is only about a 1/4 inch left/right in my hand flat wize. I challenge you to even see what I am doing. Most office conference meetings I ever went to, all of us were required to turn our phones OFF, or set them to mute. The boss confiscated your phone if he heard it make a single noise.... just once usually fixes bad attitudes.

I installed MacroDroid and set up a macro to toggle airplane mode with shaking and this may have accomplished what I wanted but it will not work without "root access". A term that is new to me and doesn't look like a road I want to go down. I then changed the action to "set priority" and this works fine to silence the phone for a meeting. Now I'm looking for a way to easily get the phone back to normal mode. Suggestions?

create a new macro that will listen for an email, or a SMS text searching for a specific phrase.

let's assume it is a text message "Settonormal" is the phrase.

MacroDroid will listen to all incoming SMS messages and when it sees a 'specific phrase' it will invoke the rest of the macro to do whatever you tell it to do.

I have created a special contact in my Contacts called "Me." yes, there is a period there. stops searches from including all names with the characters 'me'

Now, unlock your phone, open SMS app, send a message to yourself from that SMS conversation with that single phrase. next time all you do is hold down on the previous 'sent message' and select "copy text".

then you just Hold down on new message and 'paste the text', 2 seconds later, MacroDroid sees that incoming message and performs your macro.

I do this almost every day

You lost me with this response. How does this easily change the sounds and notifications button from "vibrate" to "sound"?
