Is there an Android based device *without* a monthly fee or 3G?

Hi. I like Android and wanna get a device running it, but I refuse to pay any monthly fee. WiFi is fine though. So, the ipod touch, for example, is like this. but I like Android. Any help is appreciated.

When you say no 3G I am thinking you want something that does not even have a phone built in not just a pay as you go phone. If that is correct then look at the Archos 5 tablet. It is built on Android and also is dual boot capable in case you want to do something else with it. It would be comparable to the Ipod touch which does not have phone capabilities.

If you want a pay as you go android phone in the US I think you are out of luck at this time.

hi. sorry, yes no phone needed. Thanks: Archos 5 looks to be exactly what I'm looking for. I forgot how pricey these things are though.

Yep $$$$ they are. The only reason most people afford smart phones are the carriers subsidize the initial cost and lock you into that monthly fee with a one or two year contract. When you forgo the phone part you are paying full price without a way to subsidize the cost. The good news is that with the iPad being offered there are more android tablets being developed and competition should drive prices down a bit.

What about that dual boot netbook that runs Android and Windows? It's either an Asus or Acer...I forget.
