Is there an app to take telephone messages?

I will have to pay my cell phone service provider more money for them to take messages for me - is there an app that would do this?

You want an app that will take messages? Like voicemail? Google Voice is the popular choice for that.

You don't want an app. An app can't take messages when your phone is off or has no coverage. You want a service (possibly in conjunction with an app) such as Google Voice, Youmail, etc.
