Root Is there any hope? I need to root but cannot.

I found out yesterday that some photographs of my newborn son were deleted from my phone. As you could imagine I want them back and will try anything to get them. I have tried multiple recovery programs that are made to work with unrooted phones. They are either not compatible, wont connect, or require root. From what I have read, rooting is the way to go in this situation but I have also tried multiple methods to root my phone and those have also failed. My device is a Motorola Razr Maxx HD. It has the latest updates. Kitkat 4.4.2 and system version 183.46.15. I have been reading a lot on the subject and found this article that says if I did not unlock the bootloader or have my phone rooted before the last update that I would not be able to root. Does this still stand true? What else can I do?

Thanks,
Axel

The first 4.4.2 update had a bug that allowed the Towel Root. From there you could unlock the boot loader. The last 4.4.2 update closed this bug. You have this latest update, about the only thing I can think of there is if these are on the SD card maybe you will have luck with another rooted device or a PC?

What's the probability of someone finding a way to root with the latest update? Is this a problem that spans across different phone models and manufactures like Samsung or HTC? Or is it just my model specifically?

As far as root, this is more up to the carrier and their device. It is easy for them not to allow root and as with Verizon they do this so they can charge more for the developer devices that allow root. Some just do not want you in root at all as they do not wish for the added support costs, user errors and what not.

Verizon did not intend to have the bug allowing Towel Root, rather though than 4.4.4 that removed the bug they opted for a modified 4.4.2 to close the bug. 4.4.4 would have been nice as it also seems to have fixed the battery eating issues as well.

Now some devices support rooting from the get go. This like with my Nexus 10, it seems enthusiasts are almost encouraged to explore the possibilities. Too bad more companies/carriers do not share this view.

As far as where the xt926 is now, well the new update closed the Towel Root bug. Since the phone appears to be marked for the end of version upgrades it is unlikely a new one, especially one allowing a new bug, will ever get slotted for this device.

Another possibility, do you use your Google accounts to back up your photo's? You had not mentioned if the photo's were on the external card too?

Nothing in this thread answers your question - the topic here is almost completely unrelated (the "almost" because it refers to rooting a specific device while yours refers to an app that requires root, so "root" is a connection of sorts, but there's nothing about the app here).

However, let's look at it this way: that preview app was released 2.5 years ago and has never been updated. So how likely do you think it is that they are still working on it?
