Is this decent battery life for the galaxy s3?

I just bought the phone 2 days ago. I woke up around 7 am today and it died at 7 pm so it lasted twelve hours with 5 hours of screen time, and at that time it died. I only used it for an hour and 30 minutes in school and was able to get up to 5 hours of screen time whe i was home. When I look at the battery percentage it seems to go down fast though.

im on 2h 42m with 46% battery life left. Usually i get 3-4 hrs, but when i use a lot of apps i get much less. 3-4 hrs is just texts, browser use, chrome, bit of phone, some fb, a few news apps.

I'm always curious what people consider good battery life. Personally I think 12hrs with 5 hours screen time (plus who know what else) sounds awesome. On average I get probably about 15 to 18 hours if I'm not really using the phone, but to read others you would think this disappointing. I'm also don't get what the aversion to charging a phone is. Personally I keep charging cords pretty much every where I spend significant amounts of time. Even though I don't need them as much with this phone, I generally keep the phone topped off because, well - why not?

If I leave my phone completely alone, as in not touch it at all, I average about 52 hours. I know this because I have done this the past two weekends just to see what it would do. With normal daily use my phone lasts about seventeen hours. This is if I wake up at 5 AM every morning and use the phone as normal and make a point to not plug it back in until 10 PM that night when I go to bed. By 10 PM the power is down to about 7% or so.

The absolute biggest drain for me is my navigation app (Waze). If I use it without having it plugged in and charging (which will never actually happen), it drains my battery FAST.

This is absolutely atrocious battery life. I don't think I've ever experienced that short of life except when using GPS on a road trip.
