Is this good or bad?

So for the longest I've been wondering if my battery life is good or bad. Here's today's battery use (battery was 100% on start up):

1h 36m 14s on battery (76%)

Screen 60%
Android OS 15%
Browser 10%
Android system 8%
Standby 2%
Facebook 2%
Apex Launcher 2%
Phandroid 2%

Its been under light usage, mostly browsing as you can tell. Wifi has been on and I don't know if it makes a big difference but, I am rooted. Stock battery and its about 2 months old.

I'm surprised that my AOS is at 15% because it usually gets really high at around 30-80% on start up. Also, is it normal for the AOS to gradually increase over time?

Anyways, is this normal? Because I feel like my battery doesn't last very long.

You have to remember that the percentages for the individual components are only relative to the overall usage. IMO they're really only useful if you are seeing your battery drain faster than normal ... then you can try to pick out an offending app or service or whatever.

The top level numbers look odd ... you say "today's battery use", but it only shows 1.5 hours on battery? It also says that you've lost 24% in just over 1.5 hours. That seems a little high to me ... I would expect the battery to last pretty much through the day (like 8-10 hours?) with moderate usage ... maybe more. But the odd thing here is that the Screen is far and away your biggest drain, and there's not much you can do about that. That would seem to indicate pretty heavy usage of the screen, and not the "light usage" you say.

I think to really understand this you need to do some monitoring over longer periods and get some better numbers. The first question you want to answer is ... how long does a full charge really last on a "typical" day?

I used to be able to get 8-10hrs on one full charge, with moderate to heavy usage, when the phone was new. Even if I had wifi on when at home and 3g on when outside. I would get about 1hr 30min every 10%. I've noticed my battery life a lot shorter than before and every time i check my battery usage, AOS is on top most of the time; regardless if i just booted the phone or if its been on for a while.

Is there a free app that can read my battery usage better? so I can monitor my battery and change things accordingly

The fact that your screen is 60% confirms your phone was on a lot for the first hour and a half.

For myself when I wake up in the morning my phone comes off charger at 100% (immediately drops to 99% the second I unplug it, also 2 month old phone, not rooted though). The first 30 minutes of the day the screen does not go off at all. I'm on internet constantly, updating fantasy teams, reading articles, playing games. After those 30 minutes it's casual use, maybe checking time, maybe one phonecall, and 1 hour 30 minutes after it was unplugged i'm also down to 75%. I attribute the decrease strictly to the very heavy usage for the first 30 minutes.

If you're truly not using it that heavily but your screen is that active use the basic tips of lowering the brightness of your screen, that should help tremendously, and lower the timeout of the screen to 30 seconds or less... I also turn off GPS, bluetooth, wi-fi, and 4g (sprint) when not using my phone during the day which helps a lot.

Good luck, please say thanks if any of this helps....

I don't know of any better ways to monitor battery, but I would just suggest maybe keeping track of the numbers over longer periods and for a few days to try and get some better averages of how long your battery really lasts. Then maybe do some searching for other posts to compare numbers.

Just as a starting point. my phone today is down to about 90% after 2 hours of low usage, and I've got Android OS 39%, Display 17%, Android System 13% and Google Services 12% (and then a few others < 10%). So I expect to get 10+ hours of moderate usage, and AOS and Display to generally be the top users ... that's kind of my "normal".

Unless there's some obvious app that's chewing up battery, I'm not sure there's a lot you can do. I would at least try a reboot (and maybe a battery pull) just to make sure none your radios are running amok. After that, the normal battery tips apply ... the radios and the screen are usually the biggest draws on battery, and radios searching for signals will drain your battery. There's always the chance that you have a "bad" battery or something odd like that.

Hope that helps.

The problem with all of this analyzing and pouring over charts is that there are A LOT of things that factor in to your battery use.

Screen brightness setting
Are you viewing sites in mobile or full mode
Your physical position in relation to the nearest cell tower/router
How many things are you toggling in between when you are using your phone.
Any social streaming apps that are constantly syncing with various social services
Whether or not you're truely exiting an app/game when you're done using it or just simply hitting home.
Is haptatic feedback on

"on and on and on and on..............." - Journey - don't stop believing -

I think the only true way to notate any abnormal drain would be to take stock of what apps you are using, find the ones you don't really care about, delete those, backup and wipe the whole damn thing from orbit. Reinstall reroot.

You know for all the stupid shit they keep finding to cram into these devices - 20 megapixel cameras, retinal scanner, rectal scanner, hexacore processesor, 8 inch beholderviewAMOLED screens, 20 gigs of ram they can't seem to fix or improve small things like the battery or reception.

These things are barely even phones these days.

I wouldn't be surprised in ten years, you call support to report outage/drop calls or reception issues, the tech on the other line then begins to cackle uncontrollably and the next then you hear is a click from him disconnecting the call.

Tech - "I had a call earlier where this guy was complaining about being unable to make calls. REALLY?!..............REALLY!!!? You're trying to use your device as a phone?!!! LOY!"
