Is virgin mobile faster or boost mobile? (p.s. I already know that they're both on sprints network)

The reason I'm asking this "stupid" question is because my lg optimus v from virgin mobile has the worst 3g speeds ever. I just wanted to know from other boost mobile users what your 3g speeds are. I'm currently thinking if I should switch to boost mobile.

mine is fast depending where you are and what your service is like for that area. and what your processor is for your phone.

They are going to be the same speeds, to keep it simple. True, the phone (namely the radio and the drivers) can influence the speed, but then you are comparing the phones and not Virgin v. Boost -- as both carriers will have faster and slower phones. The simple answer really is correct in this case, since they both use the Sprint Network (and both companies are owned by Sprint) they both perform the same.

Speeds on VM vary greatly based on location; Sprint in many cities has terrible speeds. I found the PC Mag article on fastest mobile networks very interesting; particularly the columns that show how frequently each networks speed was under 144kpbs (in some cities, it was close to half the time for Sprint).

If Virgin isn't doing the job for you, then I'd recommend looking into T-Mobile or Straight Talk (uses AT&T's network) and their phones. While it may be more than you want to spend, the Galaxy Nexus (sold unlocked from Google) is a great phone that will work on either T-Mobile or AT&T (or Straight Talk).
