Help Issue adding apps to main screens???

This has been going on for a while, but I finally figured I'd ask if anyone else has this problem.

So if I'm on any of my screens that have available space and I want to add an app, I click app drawer, and hold.

For some reason, the app does not flow with my finger anymore. It basically only allows me go move left or right on same row that app was on in app drawer. If nothing available on that row, I can't even see anything and I always have to drop and it creates a group. I then have to remove the app from group to where I want it to go.

Big pain

Not sure how to solve your problem, but have you done a soft reboot on your phone lately, by holding the power button and volume down button at the same time until the phone turns off and then restarts? Kind of like restarting a computer. Might clean up a few things.

Yes, I've tried that when everything was laggy. Cleaning the partition cache fixed that, but this is still an issue.

I played with it a little on my Droid Maxx to understand your descriptions ...

Are you sure there is empty space on the homescreen? Perhaps you have an icon displayed that has blank space around it. When you bring another icon into that area (blank or not) it creates a group.

There are definitely spaces available. I've even tried to bring one to a blank screen. I app icon used to follow my finger. Now it just goes to one or two blocks left/right and nowhere else. Until i place it and then move it.

I tried running in safe mode to see if it was a specific app, but same issue happened. I went to add an app shortcut to a blank screen and there was basically 2 spaces I could release. Not because it was full, but because the icon was not "flowing" with my finger to new screen.

So it's not any app. Maybe when i install kitkat, it will fix it.

Here's an off-the-wall idea.

A few years ago there was a member here who had weird problems manipulating his screen. We had him find someone else to try the same thing on his screen and it worked. The only conclusion was that there was something about his body chemistry that was doing it.

Can you have someone else try it on your screen?

It used to work just fine. If I remember correctly, it started after one of the new OS updates...not sure which one though.

I had someone else try and same problem. It works fine for me on HTC One and iPhone.

I typically place it wherever it will let me and then move it out of "group" and place where I want it. It only happens from app drawer to main screen.

hmmm. wonder if a new launcher would fix it?

That is weird ... I just duplicated your problem on my Droid Maxx ...

Using the default launcher ... select an icon in app drawer ... position it on the default home screen ... it moves left and right and up and down.

Using the default launcher ... select an icon in app drawer ... position it on the any home screen other than the default ... it moves left and right and does not move up and down.

Using the Nova Launcher Prime (my preferred launcher) ... select an icon in app drawer ... position it on any home screen ... it moves left and right and up and down.

(I must have tried it under Nova Launcher Prime the first time.)

Interesting. I was thinking one of the preloaded apps I "disabled" may have caused it. Guess not.

I guess I could try a different launcher
