Help Issue with a stuck/dead pixel on the screen

I have a single black [dead] pixel on my Note 8 screen. I'm pretty sure this is not a surface glass thing.

Is this common?
 
I had several dead pixels suddenly show up less than two months after purchasing device from Samsung.com. Received warranty replacement that didn't wirelessly charge, sent hit in, received another replacement that didn't wirelessly charge. Just received another replacement that works well. Little headache, but I'm happy to finally have a working device... good luck!

That's terrible! Glad you finally got a replacement that works I know with T-Mobile once you go through 2 replacement, the 3rd is a new phone or an upgrade. Did they give you a refurbished phone or a new one?
 
First replacement was new, second and third were refurbs, although both in flawless condition. It's funny too, because my original phone was black, first and second replacements were orchids grey (which I didn't love, but were growing on me) and the third one that works? Black again. Fine print says premium care only guarantees device, not color. Smh
 
I am very disinclined to send this back because of the nightmare of reinstalling everything - particularly all those passwords.

And yes the pixel is black.
 
Do you have a memory card? Because if so, you can use Samsung smart switch. Just put everything on the memory card and then when you reinstall everything on your new phone, it puts everything back the way it was. Home screen etc. You'll just have to sign back in to everything. It was super easy. Just remember to unlock anything you have locked in Samsung Notes before you copy it. I'm pretty sure secure folder is non transferable as well. You don't have to live with dead pixels!

Not actually super easy because there's a heck of a lot more to set up than just a lot of passwords. Not least the placing and contents of a lot of folders which I use constantly. And about 50-60 bookmark icons and maybe 20 file aliases with icons I have designed myself. A complete pain to start again. Three day job.

Notwithstanding once my replacement computer gets here, I have decided to get it done. A Samsung guy took a look at it yesterday. The phone won't be swapped but fixed. I'll get the failed S-Pen replaced at the same time.

I've an empty 200 Gb card I'll smart-swap on to. It was destined to replace the current internal 128 Gb.

I'm not impressed at how the internal card insertion is designed either compared with previous phones. Delicate, fiddly, easily breakable and not something I'd want to make a habit of.

I presume you can smart swap onto an external USB stick if you want?

Phone was finally fixed. A replacement screen so that meant the whole thing and thus new screen. No more dead pixel and the surface is pristine.

S-pen also replaced (clicker failed on the old one). For some reason I was given a new battery.

Restore made a few false starts and seemed to hang overnight. (I had made 3 separate backups - 2x microSD an 1x USB) but it worked surprisingly well. In particular, it restored folders. Some widgets had to be reinstalled.

Document aliases with my own icons are all there. I was surprised about that. Weird things happened with Firefox bookmarks which weren't preserved but sort-of were.

Tedium with passwords, of course.

One stupid thing I have noticed before with contacts: It loses all the photos except for a very low resolution replacement. Always looks awful.
 
Glad to hear you are finally getting back up and running and will now get to truly enjoy your phone. Sorry about the photos on your contacts. That's odd though. I use google for my contacts and have uploaded my own photos for most of them, even businesses. They always transfer fine.

Yeah. I think it must be a .vcf thing. Always happens. I don't use 'cloud' for anything if I can help it. Policy decision.
 
Samsung Galaxy Note 8 dead/stuck pixel? How to fix and if I leave it will it get worse?

There's a little gray speck that appeared on my screen yesterday and I've only had the phone for 3 months and a couple of days and it's in mint condition. I have a sneaky suspicion that it's a dead or stuck pixel but I dont know how to fix it and I could do a warranty through samsung but I'd be out of a phone for 11-13 days. If I leave it will it get worse?
 
Whether it will get worse depends on the cause. If it's physical damage then possibly, if random failure of one contact probably not. Generally dead pixels are manufacturing defects which are visible out of the box, damage usually affects a larger area. How big is it?

As for whether you can fix it, try this test: if you take a screenshot does the dot show in that (viewed on another device, obviously)? If it does then the problem is software, and probably is fixable. If it does not then it's a hardware problem, either with the panel or connections to it, and not something you can fix without voiding your warranty.
 
I had one dead pixel. It didn't manifest until a few days after purchase.

Eventually, I took it in and Samsung replaced the screen.

You get a whole replacement screen so a new front glass too.
