If you are talking about a lock screen password, a factory reset will solve it (but you lose any data that are not backed up). Some phones will switch to asking for your Google login if you get it wrong too many times, so if you know that then that's an option. But beware: there are some that will do a reset after some number of incorrect attempts, so it's important to know which your phone will do (most of these do warn you, but I cannot guarantee that all do).

Note that a factory will trigger the "factory reset protection" and you will need your Google password to be able to use the phone again (an anti-theft measure). So if you don't remember your Google password on no account do a factory reset, as you will have a bigger problem on your hands.
