It's all in the name.

I am new to android. After a few hours 1 was ready to throw the phone out the window!
Saved by my son. He said the magic words "Dad, forget everything you know about computers, Android is part of google and live with it"

I could not understand why an operating system needed to sync with anything! It did not make sense to an old school techy. And I am old school; grew up on Fortran and Cobol.

Now I find myself needing to get root access. After loading all my contacts, too. So I will be getting a backup app if I don't have one already.

So Hi everyone, I am glad to be part of the community and just remember to watch out for blue trees when driving. After you have seen one, it's almost too late.

Hello and welcome to Android Forums. :)

Yep. Google is part of android and it needs to sync data and you can even sync your g-mail contacts too.
Just remember that with rooting you need to do your homework or you might brick (break) your phone and once you root or attempt it your warranty is void.
So just do your research and also remember that each phone has it's own rooting method so the same one wont work on any other phone.
If you have any questions or need help please feel free to ask. :D

EDIT: I'll be sure to watch for blue trees. ;)
