iTunes Duplicates Driving Me Crazy

I got a brand new computer because my old computer is shot. Unfortunately all 30 something GBs of music was gone, or at least I thought it was, until I remembered that it's all backed up on Google Music servers [thanks Google :)] so I redownloaded all of my old music.

I only had about 4,000 songs, but now I have 7,548 songs because every single one of them has duplicated themselves. I know about going into File>Show Duplicates however that will just show me all of the songs in my library like the regular view because, again, they've all duplicated themselves.

I've found out that somewhere during the download process from Google servers, there was an error that caused it to not download more songs so I had to manually restart the download process. Unfortunately when I did this, it caused it to download all of my music twice for some reason. So when I go into my computer's music folder where iTunes stores music, all of the songs in there are also duplicated. Such as Alice in Chain's Them Bones has two mp3 files. Them Bones and Them Bones1. It does this for every single one of my songs in there.

Is there any program or method that I can use to eliminate this? I simply don't have the time or energy to sit there and delete every single one. Even if the program could delete duplicates in the iTunes library, that would be good enough for me.

I found one easier way.

I went into my folder located on the hard disk and searched for (1). Unfortunately the computer doesn't search for "()" so it brought up all of the music that has a 1 in it. But this is quicker than having to go through each and every folder.

If anyone has any quicker ideas, I'm all open.

I can't just reburn everything or redownload everything from iTunes because some of it was borrowed from a friend's CD or the CD that I have is lost due to me not using it lol

Can you delete all the music off your hard drive and re-download everything again?

I could...but it took like 4 days, literally running for 4 days 24 hours every day, to finish downloading all of the songs lol

I'm going to try a program called Rinse and see how well it does. I'll post how it finished.

Thanks for the advice though.

Going through the search and deleting any duplicates that I saw removed most of the duplicate songs however there are still over 1,000 duplicates remaining in iTunes.

Rinse was very thourough in deleting duplicates as well as many other operations within iTunes. I should have used that software first before trying to do things manually as it did a superb job and it found mistakes that I made and albums that are incomplete because of my actions. Anyway, my question has been resolved. Thanks for the answer, gvillager. I appreciate the help.
