I used to own an iPod and really loved the remote app that would control my iTunes flawlessly. After trying out some other android programs that just wouldn't work, I've finally found one that does. It's called "Droimote." You do have to install a small "server" app on your computer like the others, however. I'm pretty sure that this is a restriction of Apple's programming nature...Nevertheless, it doesn't take up much in the way of resources.
At this time, the app is still in its early stages, but it is promising. There is both a free and paid version ($3.00). The pro version allows you to skip forward and backwards in songs. The free version simply does play/pause. You can't browse playlists, view album art, or see what is actually playing....yet. But I emailed the developer and he is working on that for the next release and ones to come.
I'm not affiliated with the developer, just so you know. I emailed him about some requests (see playlists, album art, etc. above) and he got right back to me. High hopes, android fanatics.
