Help Jelly bean probs

Since upgrading software to jelly bean (unlocked uk) my phones battery has run down super quick, even when it's not being used. Then when I charge it it takes all morning whereas it used to take 3 hours max.

I also keep getting a few random force closes on stock apps like gallery etc

What should I do?

Sounds like you're a candidate for a clean install.

What does it say is using battery in the battery stats page?

I would consider purchasing "Better battery Stats" from teh market to get an idea of whats draining your battery.

I was thinking about doing that but its a last resort. I have heard that after doing an upgrade like this that old system files can be lurking and cause problems. But I don't know if that's true or if its jelly bean or some new settings or something. Getting a bit annoyed now with force closes on regular stock apps and the fact that I'm going to have to put phone on charge all night rather than when I get up. Fire hazard and all that

Jelly Bean now apparently allows us to tailor the display's brightness to suit our individual needs, even when set to auto, but I can't see any explanation of how to do this. What I've concluded is that, when set to auto brightness, the associated slider biases the display to be brighter or dimmer even though the relative level is still controlled by the ambient light. I'd suggest looking at this - if it's all the way to the right, try setting it to mid-way and see how that affects things for you.

got the exact same issues as the OP after upgrading to JB a week on saturday

is a clean install a factory reset?

will the Kies software take an adequate backup?

Kies doesn't recognise my phone so I can't test. Says my phone is not compatible with kies 2.0. Spent nearly an hour on the phone with the Samsung techie. He recommended a factory reset (clean install) and he's also sending me kies on USB to see if we can get it working
