Just got my first android phone and have a newbie question

So I got my first android EVO 4G last night and i love it but I don't like some of the apps that came on the phone. When I go to uninstall them the "uninstall" button is grayed out and i can't select it. How can i delete these off my phone or where can I find out how. I read some thread about "rooting" the phone but I just want some of the dumb apps that I will never use off the phone. Thsnks for your help

Short answer: without rooting the phone, you can't get rid of them.

Longer answer: If you do root and get rid of them, you'll have to go back to stock (i.e. restore those applications) before you can get an update to the operating system pushed down to you from your service provider or phone manufacturer.

Caveat: If you can root your phone, you can probably restore it to stock or install your own update without much trouble.

Bottom Line: the apps probably don't do any harm except taking up space on the screen, so most people just live with them.

You can always remove app icons from your homescreen. Just press and hold on the app and drag it to the trash. You just can't uninstall them from your phone.
