Just got mytouch, but heard Vibrant 4 was coming. Should I return?

Hey guys, first post here and first time Android user (or any smartphone for that matter).

I picked up a mytouch 4g yesterday, but I really did like the Samsung Vibrant. Problem was the vibrant is a little dated, so I went with the newer...

That being said, I just found out the new Vibrant is on it's way and the specs seem better than the mytouch. Should I take the mytouch back and wait for the phone I really wanted? Anyone know of any pro's/con's of either that may persuade me either way???

I only played with either phone for 10 minutes, and I'm a total newb, so I've come here to get some better info

cheers

Do you live in Ca, or a state that has a 30 day return policy? Because I think the Vibrant 4g comes out on 2/23. Anyway, the Vibrant 4g is a Vibrant with an FFC and 4g radio. If you want to try it out, just return for the Vibrant and play around with that one. Froyo is now available for the Vibrant check out the TMO forums on how to download.

No, don't return your MT4G. The Vibrant 4G is nothing special, just a FFC and 4G, both of which you already have. Plus you will get much better manufacturer with the MT4G, than you will with any Samsung.

Nope, live in a 14 day return state. I could easily go back to my old phone, though. I think after returning one, the second they charge a restocking fee (?).

Great info so far, and I have read about the let-downs of samsung. Please keep it coming, and I'll give it a couple of days to decide what I want to do!

Regarding Samsung, they make the best hardware and the best screens. Complainers are always the loudest. There are true GPS issues with the galaxy s series for many owners. There are also many owners who don't have these issues or have taken steps to correct them by getting warannty replacements. Samsung is the weakest at OS updates, but tmobile has released froyo for the Vibrant (the 1st in the US).

you can always take matters into your own hands, most Galaxy s devices have a great development community. If you don't want to have to do your software tweaking yourself, and software updates are important to you, you may want to consider another manufacturer. At any rate, you should give as many phones a whirl as you can within your 14 day period. I get 30 days and I tried 4 (mt4g, G2, mts3g and Vibrant), I could not give up the Vibrant.

eta: I think you can turn in as may phones as you want in your return period without a restocking fee, or maybe that's just ca, I never paid anything

That's like...your opinion man..:p

Seriously, my FIVE Vibrants ALL had GPS issues along with other problems. Best screen, I'll go with that. Best hardware? Based on my experience, not even close.

Getting back to the OP's question...the MT4G smokes the Vibrant in almost every way (exception is the screen). Simply put, the phone just works...the way it should.

Unless Samsung made some serious changes to the hardware it is, IMO, not worth it.

Well the thing is this, i personally hate the galaxy s but i can see why some people are attracted to it. The vibrant to me feels light and cheap because of the plastic but to some thats a plus to be able to have such a light phone. The 4 inch amoled screen has always been its greatest strength, plus 16gb on board combined with a 32gb card gives you 48 gb on a phone, the hummingbird processor suppose to be great with gamming. However there is the gps issue that ive experienced on my girl friends 4 vibrant phone first hand, not to mention lag and touchscreen issues plus there the always real chance that gingerbread or any updates for that matter will be slow to release if they are released.

The benifits of the my touch are a sturdier(heavier) build, an actual camera button with a 2 step push for auto focus, an actual led notification light, the optical pad which helps with editing and link selection, a camera flash, the scorpion processor is a beast for gaming, and htc's track record for updating their phones. I personally think the my touch is a better all around phone, my girlfriend couldnt be happier to be rid of it and loves her mytouch 4g as do I, and im coming from a nexus1.

I don't understand why Samsung requires you to use their software Klies installed to PC for any updates. Everybody is using over the air update but samsung, you need the update with USB cable and their software.

I had the Nexus S for 10 days. Almost lost all my data. Returned and got the mytouch 4g. I'll never go with Samsung again.

I had a Vibrant for 3 months and the experience was pretty bad. I had the gps problems as well as some othrr issues. I went through 3 warranty replacements. Finally I had enough and went with the MT4G and instantly fell in love. Build quality is better, sense is better than touchwiz, and everything just WORKS. I'm typically one to change phones a couple times a year and for the first time since I've been using smartphones I'm completely satisfied and won't give this up anytime soon.

Great responses guys. Thanks. As of now, I'm leaning towards holding onto the mytouch. I REALLY, truly, DESPISE the fact that it's forcing crappy demo apps onto me... almost to the point of me returning it and going back to my old phone. But I guess that's with any smart phone I get on t-mobile. I'm a tech guy, just never cared about what phone I used, so I'm assuming with a little research I'll learn more about rooting the phone. Don't worry, I won't even go there until I've done my research.

Guess it's time to figure the ins and outs of this phone and see how I like it.

cheers

I was the same way as you with all the the crap that was loaded on to the phone. One way i was able to get around it without having the fear of destroying the phone and making it one expensive paper weight was to temp root. In my signature there is a link for you to click. Check it out.

vibrant 4g aint anything special. plus personally the galaxy s custom OS looks cheap, I hate it. HTC makes higher quality phones than Samsung does, go with the mytouch 4g, I've never been happier with it

I have Galaxy Tab. The UI is very cartonny. Their built-in widget also looks cheap. HTC Sense on MT4G on the other hand is well polished. The Widget looks cool too.

I love the my touch but battery life hands down goes to the samsung e.g I have display down data not running manual snyc for everything while my sister has the galaxy s from verizon running everythin background bright screen. We took of our phones from the charger at 8am hit up disney world for the day by dinner time I was 20% she was at 60% I mean in quadrant the my touch destroyed the samsung but what's the use of all that great hardware if the battery doesn't last just my two cents but I still love the my touch

Return the phone. Even if you prefer the MT4G, I'd expect the price to drop when a new phone like Vibrant 4G gets released.

Wow, I can't even imagine anything having worse battery life than the Vibrant.

MT4G still is better than the Vibrant 4G! Optimus 2x is coming in March, so if you want a great phone maybe you should wait for that? IDK... thats what I'm waiting for!

Really I just reported my experience and from that incident the samsung had way better battery life than both our my touch 4gs and they didn't have to do preventative stuff to keep their battery stuff like we do are both mine and my wifes phones defective?

Or maybe my Vibrant just drained battery like crazy. Battery life is simply too random of an issue. Any posts talking about battery life, you'll find a bunch of different results from different users.

I think it's silly to compare the battery life for smart phones. Phone manufacturers want to get a shiny spec with the claim of thinnest and lightest phone. So they will just load a tiny battery around 1200mah to 1500mah that last a few hours.

Usually your usage time gets better in time. It's not your battery last long. it's just, when you first have your phone, you will play with it all the time. Thus draining the battery quicker and in half a day.

For us with phones with interchangeable battery pack (*ahem*.. fruit phone users/losers), you can just buy some replacement batteries for a few dollars off ebay. Or something like this so you can charge your phone on the road.

:O same ol discussion we just had in the past in XDA. I mean have you not like looked at the spec of Vibrant 4G compared to Vibrant? Samsung < lol anyone who would buy device from them deserve to be stuck with it, as they shouldn't be allowed to build anything other than TVs.

Given the past Samsung's BS you can and you will see why they made 2nd attempt at epic failed device named Vibrant. I loved it when the OTA update hold out leaked soon after they released it as it was planned to be released after Vibrant 4G originally.

Stick with MT4G regardless of what Samsung fanboys tell you specially the NS kids who is still crying over 4000+ benchmark scores yet the POS phone can't play decent video. If anyone interested I can explain how they work already covered it in A/C and XDA forum like 1000 times LOL

I almost got the mt4g yesterday I love that phone. Are you guys using a phone case?Looks like it won't need one.It has the rubber surround on it.
I have a piece of crap samsung epic 4g and 2 year contract.I bought the car dock and home dock.Thinking that i would get a update to froyo soon.Well its been 5 months. No update, can't use the audio out on the car or home dock.I am really thinking about switching to t-mobile on my brothers family plan and adding a 5th line. Not sure about S.F. Bay Area coverage though.I see a lot of no coverage areas on the map.
