Help Just got this phone, could use some advice

So I got this phone for MetroPCS and I'm loving it so far. I have the $60 plan on it currently. So far all I've done to it is I went to this site right here:

and did MOST of what it said. I left a few things such as the screen timeout + syncing functions alone. What are some apps that you strongly recommend I download, and what exactly is Rooting / Tethering? How similar is it to Jail breaking an iPod? I ask this mainly because jail breaking an iPod causes lower battery life and other various problems with the device. Does Rooting your phone cause these type of problems? Am I missing out by not rooting it?

Also does rooting your phone go against the terms of service in any way? And can it cause issues with 4g LTE connectivity?

If a Metro representative knows that you've rooted your phone they will mark your account as such and can deny warranty or terminate service. I haven't heard of it happening to anyone yet though.

A lot of the questions you ask are not specific to the indulge but rather any android phone so I suggest you read up on various google searches before asking questions that have been answered thousands of times by others in much more detail than we could give you.
