Just opened my box...WONT TURN ON!

Wow...after all that waiting....the thing won't even work!

I just got my TF201 in the mail today from Amazon and tried to turn it on and it wouldn't. I thought it may just have been a battery thing so I plugged it in for 8 hours, the green light was on and I tried it again. Nothing. I tried doing a hard 20 sec reset. Nothing. (On the 12th second, it vibrates, but no other responses). I pulled out a trusty old paperclip and did a hard 10 sec reset. Nothing. I then called Asus and they ran me through the whole process again. Nothing. They told me to call Amazon. I did that but they said 4-7 weeks. I couldn't believe it. I have spent all of this time and energy waiting for this thing, but I just have an expensive paperweight now.

Any thoughts guys? ? ?

Anyone else heard of this problem?

Any other ideas? ? ? I am desperate

(on a side note, it looks amazing....too bad I can't see the screen)

P.S.
Would it be faster to send it back to Asus then Amazon??

Thanks in advance...ANY idea would be helpful!

Why did Asus just tell you to contact Amazon? Were they essentially directing you to return it through the retailer you bought from? If so, that seems the route you'll have to take. Sorry to hear though that yours is dead. I feel your pain. I would hate that too.

Unless it is a huge price drop like the HTC View 4G for $230, I never buy expensive electronics mail order. Always at a store, though appreciate this is not convenient or even possible for some people.

I had the same issue. I am use to devices having enough initial charge to power up but that is not the case on all the Primes, even when plugged in.

Plug into AC charger and Power LED will probably blink then go solid. Let it stand on charge for at least 45 minutes to an hour then try.

I tried what you did and was expecting it to power on and was really concerned when it did not power on when plugged in but after letting it charge it worked. There is probably circuitry that detects the charge level of the battery and prevents it from booting until a certain voltage is reached.

^ Holy cow - I thought you guys were the same person! There are TWO that are DOA?

I don't like the sounds of that...

EDIT - Just saw your updated thread - glad you got it up and running! Phew!

Thanks..

I'm very happy because its not for me but for my 11 year old daugther. This is her Santa gift and we sacraficed other things, including cutting back on other gifts to get it. I was about to go out and buy an iPad 2 to cover for it.

let it charge 8 hours out of the box the manual says to get best life out of the battery.. consider that into the equation here

Thanks..

You've got one lucky 11 year old. It was all I could do to convince my wife to allow me to get one for Christmas and I am 48 years young. It will be mine but the whole family will use it.

Tried that....nothing....I have even let it charge for 12 hours, solid green the whole time...nothing...any other thoughts? I am about to ship it back...

Try holding down volume button while turning on? Either up or down?

Or holding in the reset button while pressing power button?

Not much beyond that, other than make sure you are using the power button and not the volume like I did when I first opened lol

I've got the same exact problem. I've charged it for hours and it makes a chimp when I plug it in but it won't start up. I can feel it vibrate if I hold down the power button for 12 seconds.

Looks like I'll have to return this to Game Stop, unfortunately I doubt they have a replacement for me.

Other than holding the power button + volume down ( I think for at least 12 seconds) or try holding power button for 30 seconds... I don't know what else to try.

Since the light is solid green I think that means it is fully charged. Does it vibrate when plugged into power or when you try to turn it on ?

I purchased my TF201 through Best Buy, and have the same problem. I noticed the corners of my box are all dented in like the thing has been thrown around. I'm pissed about this! There are 4 Best Buys in my area, and I'm pretty sure none have the TF201 in stock...

Well, It is gone...

I sent it back to Asus for "repairs". Their 5-7 day turn around is WAY better than amazon's 4-7 weeks!

Thanks guys...ill let you know what happens...

When I called Best Buy, they forwarded me to the Geek Squad. I told the Geek Squad tech, that I didn't want to wait for a repair and to send me a new TF201. I was told to drop my broken tablet off at the nearest Best Buy and the new one will arrive on Tuesday!
