So here I am at work, beavering away on a PERL script in a world of my own listening to my iPod (currently The Boxer - Simon and Garfunkel) when one of my colleagues calls me over.
I get up from my desk and see that he has his phone in his hand. Is he the first person to show me the completion of the final level of Story of Red as I know he has been playing it....?
"Your app crashes on the last level mate," is what he tells me.

Aaaaaaaaarrrrrrghhh!!!!!!

Blinking flip!

Just as I was ready for a well earned break from working on that game.
Dammit!!!!
He sends me a log, I look and notice there and then that it is an "Out Of Memory" issue, and all you developers are now thinking - bitmaps.
Correct. Do I tell him that is is due to my coding not being up to scratch in that particular case?
No. Instead I show him the error on my Developer page and tell him it is due to lack of resources and he needs to upgrade his phone! :D
What a brilliant lie! I might even post that as a message for future updates should it fall over with the same problem! :)
Needless to say I'm probably going to be busy on this tonight rewriting routines...!

Has anybody else managed to "paint over" coding flaws with such an amazing and elaborate lie? Such as "that part of the website won't work now as that bit of html is currently in development mode," or "That apache web server has gone down because it is running on Windows"?

Nothing so great, but I used to tell my folks the internet was down when I had really just fudged the router settings and hadn't backed them up and was trying to restore them to how they were.

IF you're into linux/aix type systems and have a few years on the clock you may enjoy reading the BOFH Archives

Especially if you're in a sysadmin kind of position. If you're not a techie you probably wouldn't appreciate it.

Why have I only been introduced to them?!?!? Just read the first one and they're talking in megabytes!!! How stuff has changed since then (them were the days). :)

gerbyte: oh yeah, they're definitely somewhat dated. Print pools, etc. Notice the timeline... 1990-2009. Started reading them a LONG time ago.
