k-9 email notification

i decided to use the k-9 app but the one thing i do not like about it is the e-mail notification.

when i get a new e-mail(s), it indicates the # of how many on the status bar in the top left corner.

is there a way to actually have the number of new e-mails on the icon or widget on the home screen?
