You need to go into your account's incoming mail settings, scroll down and you'll see a way to map the folders so you don't get the wrong tags.
As far as marking as Spam, I always thought that if you moved the message to the spam folder (i.e. add spam tag), that told Google it was spam. I don't really think they tweak on that anyhow, at least doesn't seem like for me.
