K-9 mail not downloading certain old e-mail mesages

I have a strange issue with K-9 mail. I set it up to use IMAP and push is working just fine. The problem I am having is that a few of my previously read messages aren't showing up in K-9 mail. They should be in the most recent 25 messages but they don't show up. Any idea what's up?

Anyone have a clue? E-mail is frustrating me as a new Android user.

Sorry, no IMAP accounts here. ActiveSync works well, FWIW.

I did, but it doesn't support IMAP IDLE for non-gmail accounts so no "push e-mail". I'm actually not liking K-9 mail in my few days with it for other reasons as well, including messing up formatting of e-mail messages. I think I may try maildroid. I never thought e-mail support would be this bad on Android, but coming from a blackberry I see what people were saying.
