kernel

Hello,
I just installed on a new ROM on my Droid and so far so good, but i see a lot of stuff about Kernels. what exactly are they and why would you change the current one?

Kernel is an advanced term that many windows users have never heard. as Android is Linux based its a more popular word.

The Kernel is the thing that boots up your phone, basicly its the brain of the operating system. i use the reliable Samdroid Kernel on my Rooted Portal.

I can tell i am using Samdroid because i get the Samdroid logo on boot up, i assume most Kernels make themselves known like this.

A custom Kernel can be unstable and really is for advanced technical people to play with, not for the likes of us lol
