Root kernel

I've been looking at that, but I have no experience compiling Android. From what I have read, it will basically involve finding a similar phone and using an established kernel from that phone as a base to build up something that works on this model.

The tricky part is getting the radio communications (phone, txt messages, etc) working, the camera, other hardware specific bits. Those are custom drivers, and until ZTE releases source code (keep hammering AT&T/AIO to request that ZTE release this!), progress may be slow. The existing drivers may not work with a newer kernel.

I'm waiting to catch this phone on sale again (Fry's had it for $39) so I can have a unit to do testing with before digging in further.
