Help keypad locked xperia

hi all i am new to all this my girlfriend has brought me a sony ericsson xperia i yhink its an x10 from what i can find she brought it out of the local paper and after using it for a few days my child has locked the keypad and it says draw unlock pattern, i dont know what the pattern is and i have tried to log in using my gmail account and that wont work should i just throw it away or is there a solution

With the information provided, I suggest using the below to software to re install the handsets software, this will remove all the pattern lock from the device.

This update will effectively remove all data from the phones memory but will not touch a SIM card or memory stick.
