Kies does not recognize GS5

Six months ago when I installed Kies 3 it backed up the GS5 files.
Today Kies 3 does not recognized the GS5; it yields a pop-up message:
"Unsupported device alert"
"The connected device is supported through SmartSwitch, which is faster and more convenient."
"Confirm" pushbutton.

Windows 10 File Explorer has no trouble accessing files on the GS5.
How should I solve this problem?
