In another thread DMedina points out that the SD card is read only. WTF?
what is the purpose?

Can I get the apps to move to the SD Card?

- right now the move to SD card option is grayed out.
- In my case, I updated the phone, right out of the box, and 12 hours later added the SD card. But weird. Really unexplained choices.

The problem is due to a change implemented by Kitkat. I've read a bit, and thought this was a better, more complete explanation.

I don't like rooting the phone that I am currently using. I once had a Samsung Admire lose all connectivity after rooting and thinking I could make other changes. Cause a huge nightmare when I couldn;t get in contact with people coming in on a flight. So, I'm not going to root my phones again.

Honestly it depends on the oem and the apps to allow apps to sd card,

Root is really your only choice, if you even had it..I would normally say always pick up a device with a minimum of 8 gbs that way you will have five to use unless the skin is real heavy

Also app to sd was always like that for as long as I been an android user with the Huawei M835 and my own admire and the terrible wildfire s

Right, but its not even allowing me to move Google's own app's to the SD card. Is that an OEM implementation specific to this phone, or is that everywhere in the Google universe?

Download and install ESFile Explorer and hit on SD External card to locate all your files .

Yes, I've been using ES File Explorer for a long time, and it keeps getting better. But ES File does not allow me to move file from my network server on to the phone like it does with earlier versions of Android..

And my reading says, that Google has changed file permissions, perhaps even SELinux type file permissions so that the entire SD card can only be written to by members of certain groups. They say its for better security ,,,,,, But what, their own applications are excluded from that group??? can't they even trust their applications are not malware?? :p

I am having the same problems. I cannot write to the sdcard.
Example I installed utorrent but it will not let me access the sdcard. I even tried the SD Card Fix but realized that was only for the 4.4.2 update.

Anyone else have this problem? I can't even play any games on the phone.
