KitKat Notification bar too transparent

My phone just updated to 4.4.2 KitKat this morning and I hate how invisible the notification bar up top is. Its white colors on a muted whitish background and I can hardly see any of it. Is there a way to make the text/icons darker or make the background darker? I'm guessing it automatically adjusts for a darker wallpaper image but I don't want to change my wallpaper

Have you tried a different launcher? Nova launcher is pretty good when it comes to customization, I just don't know if they have anything to add color to the notification bar

Nova launcher can put a shadow behind the notification bar so you can see it easier. You could also try a darker wallpaper.

Not a fan of it at all. I did the following two things to help a bit, at least with the battery: I installed Battery Status (or the like) so that I now have a blue with white letter icon for battery percentage. I also installed Energy Bar to show a dark blue line across the top of the notification bar to essentially replace the white battery icon.

Anyone have any suggestions for a similar app/widget for 4g/Wifi connectivity?
