Kitkat PROBLEMMMM

Hi everyone, so i just downloaded the kitkat update over the air and i was trying to text someone who has an iPhone over google hangouts. It told me "invite this person to google hangouts" so i did. but after i pressed "ok" it nothing happened. When my lg g2 had 4.2.2, hangouts could send texts to anybody with any phone but now if the receiver of the text doesnt have hangouts installed, apparently you cant text them through that app. Does anyone know if this is fixable without making all my apple friends install google hangouts

When you start a new chat, ensure when you select the contact that you are picking their SMS (mobile number) and not just the contact name which attempts to invite them to hangouts. I along with several others I know with G2's all have had no issues with this since the kitkat upgrade.
